presents a unique opportunity to bring live entertainment back to Newport¹s historic town center - Washington Square. The Opera House opened its doors in 1867 and presented a lively program of traveling theater, vaudeville, music and more for over 100 years before being divided into a tri-plex movie theater in the 1970's. The theater is now dark and in need of structural and cosmetic restoration. Nonetheless, the 500 plus seat Opera House represents a wonderful chance to bring live theater, dance, music and more back to Washington Square year round. We hope you can help us in this endeavor.
